The COVID crisis has reduced to tatters the idea of American exceptionalism.

The author writes:

“In a dark season of pestilence, COVID has reduced to tatters the illusion of American exceptionalism. At the height of the crisis, with more than 2,000 dying each day, Americans found themselves members of a failed state, ruled by a dysfunctional and incompetent government largely responsible for death rates that added a tragic coda to America’s claim to supremacy in the world”.

Time will ultimately tell the story about which state or states failed and why, but one issue illustrates what is wrong with the USA, and it isn’t Trump:

  1. Dr Vladimir Zelenko, a New York GP, researched treatments from France and China and devised a protocol with which he successfully protected his community from Covid-19[1]. Most functional societies would embrace such a cure and immediately design a formal experiment with I would call this excellence.
  2. Donald Trump got to hear of the treatment and spoke of it’s promise. Trump was then attacked by an hostile media
